'What must I do to be saved?' This is our greatest question in life. The answer is 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved' This is God's answer to the question.
"And he brought them out and said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." Then they spoke the word of the Lord to them and to all who were in his house. And they took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and his family were baptised. Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household." ACTS 16:30-34
"For all have sinned and fall short of the righteousness of God" ROMANS 3:23
What is sin? All unrighteousness is sin. That is, all wrong or evil is sin. Whatever is not of faith is sin, and the one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. If we say we have no sin in us, we are deceiving ourselves. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Because we all have sinned, we are accountable to God. That is why we need to be forgiven and be saved by believing in Jesus Christ God's only Son, who was sent into the world to pay the price for our sin. If we reject God's Son, we also reject the Father who sent him.
Will you admit you are a sinner? If so, say ' I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God'
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" ROMANS 6:23
Wages are what we get for work. Death is the penalty we get for sin. death means separation or to be cut off from God. The penalty of death spread to all men because all have sinned. As a consequence of our sins, we are all spiritually dead - lost in our trespasses against God through our sinful actions. Not only do we face a physical death but the bible says that we also face a spiritual death. It is appointed (by God) for all men to die once (physical death). This can happen at any time. But there is a permanent death if we die physically while being 'dead' in our trespasses and sins. Then, at God's judgement we will experience the Second Death. In other words, those who have not repented of their sins and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, will be with those who have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. This is a place of eternal torment and separation from God our creator. This is not God's will for us but rather the consequences of rejecting His free gift of salvation to us - Jesus Christ His Son. There is therefore a threefold death as a penalty for sin (1) Physical death (2) Spiritual Death (3) Torment and eternal separation from our Heavenly Father.
We do not have to die and be cut off or separated from God forever. God wants us to be saved from eternal death. He offers us the free gift of eternal life. This is the free gift of God - Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus said "he who hears my word and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgement" Since eternal life is a gift, it cannot be obtained by 'works' so that no one can boast. The bible says that our works are like filthy rags in His sight and this means that any form of 'self righteousness' or goodness that we think we have in ourselves, is of no consequence to God. It is only by the grace of God that we can be saved, by faith, in Jesus Christ God's son, who died for our sins and rose again from the dead, so that we can be set free from the penalty of sin. In simple terms, because God sent Jesus (His son) to pay the penalty for the sin of the world, God the Father has given Jesus all power, dominion and authority over the heavens, the word and all of creation. God sent Jesus to die as a perfect sacrifice for the sin of the world. God;s motivation for this was love because he did not want His creation to perish as a result of sin.
God now offers us eternal life rather than eternal death. If you want eternal life instead of eternal death, say: "The wages of sin is death but I now see that God gives me the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ!"
"But God demonstrates his own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" ROMANS 5:8
Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin. Because the wages of our sin is death, he died for us (sinners). On the cross, Jesus poured out His blood on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins, He did this so 'that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.' In this way 'God demonstrated His love towards us.'
Do you believe that God made payment for your sins in Christ's death for you on the cross? If so, say: "I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins"
"Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearing and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgement of God, who will render to every man according to his deeds. ROMANS 2: 4-6
Repentance is a change of mind, heart, and direction. It is shown in a 'sorrow according to the will of God' which leads you to 'turn to God from idols to serve the living and true God'. Simply put, you make an about face from sin, with remorse for your sins, and without regret (for leaving a sinful life behind you). God declares that all men everywhere must repent or perish.
Obey God's command now. 'Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away'. This shows you that God does not desire that any of His creation perish but that all come to repentance. Are you sorry for your sins and willing to repent? If so, say: "I am sorry for my sins. I see that the kindness and love of God leads me to repentance"
"that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for 'Whoever will call upon the name of the lord will be saved.' How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not yet heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" ROMANS 10:9-14
God makes it simple. You trust him with your heart and confess Him with your mouth, and this results in righteousness. Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. You express your faith by calling to God in prayer. In this way you invite Jesus into your heart. He promises that if anyone hears his voice, and opens the door (to invite him into their life), he will come in. Jesus told of one man who was saved when he spoke form his heart only seven words: 'God be merciful to me, a sinner.'
When should you call upon the name of the Lord? God says that 'now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation'
Believe that Jesus died for your sin and that God raised Him from the dead. Call upon the name of the Lord and confess with your mouth Jesus Christ as Lord. He promises that anyone who confesses Him before men, He will confess before His Father who is in heaven. When you do this, you know that you are saved.
Will you call upon the name of the Lord to come into your heart and save you now? If so, do it now by praying this simple prayer:
"Lord I have sinned. I am sorry for my sins. I now give my life to You. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I ask you to save me and live in my life. God be merciful to me a sinner. In Jesus name I pray. Amen"
Congratulations! If you have prayed this prayer with sincerity, and have remorse for your sin, rest assured that God has heard your prayer and he has received you as His child.
